Curious About How to Buy White Wine

I find that it goes better with most meals and that it makes a nice gift at dinner parties and things like that. However, I tend to be a red wine drinker, whereas most of my friends like white. I am curious about how to buy white wine. I know a lot about reds but whites are completely foreign to me. I have been looking online to learn about which ones go with what and what is the most popular and the best brands. I may even convert to whites after all of this!
