In 1988 GM Heavy Truck Corp., Which is also commonly know world wide as General Motors (GM) joined forces with Volvo Construction trucks and tractors Volvo division. In 1997, Volvo acquired all shares of General Motors in a joint venture and renames the company to Volvo Trucks North America, North American full-fledged division of Volvo. In 2001 Volvo Trucks North America came up with a  common brand name known as Volvo AB and occupied a secure position. Now the company is the world’s second largest producer of long-haul tractors and a leader in the field of diesel engines for heavy trucks.
